Topics relating to climate change, natural areas, and environmental resilience have become more and more tied to what we do as public gardens and how our community perceives its purpose and direction. Dr. Gaiser, the leading principal investigator of the Florida Coastal Everglades Long Term Ecological Research Program, promises to offer a fresh perspective on natural
areas research and sustainable practices applicable to many public gardens.
Gaiser’s research focuses on interpreting the drivers of environmental change—using Everglades ecology and ecosystems as the basis—and crafting management solutions for a more resilient future. On a whole, research in the Gaiser lab seeks to preserve and rejuvenate our wetland resources. As Gaiser puts it “Water sustains our planet, yet the future of our freshwater resources is tenuous, given the pressures of climate change. Our research is aimed at creating a more resilient future for our freshwater lakes and wetlands.”
